this really does happen sometimes

One of the odd facts of rural life, at least, where I live, is that people DO herd cows here, and they ARE allowed to drive cattle on surface streets (even the 55 MPH ones that lead from highway to highway.) And once in a great while you may actually find yourself stopped on a 55 MPH road, behind a cattle drive.

Or, in my case, watch one happen from your front yard. On the far side of across-the-street, earlier this afternoon, I was startled to see several cows meandering down the side of the (55 MPH) road. As more and more of them appeared, what started as "...uh, did they get loose?" turned into "oh, cattle drive", so I snapped some pictures. Cows and cars and cowboys on horses. Enjoy.

I didn't hear anyone say that, but they were shouting things like "Heyyyyyyyy-YUP" and such. I think the little son there saw me taking pictures, lol. (Probably thought I was one of THEM THAR CITY FOLK THAT AIN'T NEVER SEEN A CATTLE DRIVE BEFORRR.)

The next time they mosey past you should stand out front with a megaphone and treat them to a chorus of "Ghost Riders in the Sky".
